The Outdoor Leadership Center and Field House (referred to as the Field House) at Colorado Mountain College- Spring Valley has specific rules and regulations, as well as general guidelines of good citizenship and responsible behavior. Members and guests should understand that by virtue of enrollment, all members enter into an agreement with the College that they will abide by the institution’s rules and regulations and will observe the standards expected of members and guests.
Participants are expected to be courteous to other facility users and employees and to follow the rules, policies, and safety instructions outlined by the Field House administrative staff. Facility users who engage in behavior or actions that might damage equipment or facilities, or pose a threat to the safety and wellbeing of themselves or others may have their usage privileges revoked and could face possible College disciplinary action and/or law enforcement action.
The Field House is dedicated to providing an inclusive environment with safe services, programs, and facilities that are welcoming to all individuals regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, spirituality, gender, gender identity/expression, age, sexual orientation, ability/disability, socioeconomic class, or national origin.

Assumption of Risk

Participation in all activities within the Field House is voluntary and all individuals knowingly assume all risks when they take part in informal or programmed recreational activities. Each participant also has a responsibility to use prudent and ordinary care in their actions. Colorado Mountain College and the Outdoor Leadership Center and Field House are not liable for injuries sustained during participation in an activity or program, nor are they liable for financial costs related to health services resulting from illness or injury incurred during the use of the Field House.

Entry and Access

For entry to the Field House, in addition to signing a Membership Agreement and Assumption of Risk, Waiver and Release and having an active membership or day pass:
  • Anyone aged 18+ must present a CMC ID, Field House Membership Card, or government-issued identification.
  • Anyone aged 13 - 17 must present CMC ID, Field House Membership Card, or government-issued identification or be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult guardian.
  • Anyone aged 0 - 13 must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult guardian, who presents their own CMC ID, Field House Membership Card, or government-issued identification and vouches for the child’s identity.
Attempts to use another member’s CMC ID or Field House Membership Card or providing an identification card for another's use may result in confiscation of the card and suspension from Field House facilities and/or program participation.
 
Youth Policy
 
Users must be at least 14 years old to use any fitness equipment. Ages 13 and under may use the downstairs gym or climbing wall with a parent or guardian present. Minors age 17 and under may use the climbing wall only if a parent/guardian is present at all times, and both the child and parent/guardian have passed the required climbing wall certifications.

Attire

In an effort to promote safety, reduce the spread of communicable diseases and prevent additional wear and tear on equipment and machines, all participants are asked to wear appropriate athletic clothing while working out or participating in activities. Participants not wearing appropriate clothing or clothing found to be offensive will be told to adjust as needed or asked to leave the facility.
Exceptions to these clothing policies may be made at the discretion of the Director of Recreation and Events; expressed written approval must be obtained prior to engaging in the desired activity.
In all areas of the facility, attire must cover the chest, genitals, and buttocks.
  • Clothing material must provide adequate coverage to limit direct skin contact with equipment.
  • Attire that could cause damage to equipment or facility, or create individual risk is prohibited, i.e. exposed loose strings, rivets, and/or zippers.
  • Clothing with profane language, inappropriate subjects, etc. is not permitted to be worn in the facility.
  • Minimal jewelry is advised.
  • Athletic, non-marking, shoes are required for recreational activities.
  • Metal on the bottom of any footwear is prohibited in all facilities.
  • No sandals, backless or open-toe shoes are allowed while participating in physical activity.
  • Shoes should be free of debris before entering the facility

Personal Belongings
Please lock your valuable personal belongings in day use lockers. Unsecured belongings may be considered abandoned property and turned in to lost and found.CMC is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen personal articles.  Individuals should report stolen items to CMC Security or Garfield County Sheriff.
 
Lockers
Day-Use Lockers are available at the locker bays on both levels of the Field House at no cost during hours of operation. All lockers feature Digi Locks, which are embedded digital locking mechanisms, and do not require members to provide their own locks. Belongings in day-use lockers must be cleared out before the daily facility closing; any items left inside at closing will be placed in the lost and found. If it is found that a member continually violates this policy, a fee will be incurred.
 
Lost and Found
Any unattended or left items will be placed in the lost and found at the front desk where they are held for a minimum of two weeks and then donated to local charities. Individuals must be able to accurately identify their object prior to return and must sign the item out of the lost and found via the log. No members are allowed access to the lost and found.
  • General lost and found items will be turned over to the Quigley Library on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Personal toiletry items such as cleansing products, hair care products, razors, washcloths, etc., are disposed of immediately due to sanitary health reasons.
  • CMC ID Cards will be returned to the Student Affairs Office on a weekly basis.
  • Personal items of value, such as electronic devices, wallets, keys, credit cards, jewelry, etc., will be secured in Director of Recreation and Event’s office until claimed. To be claimed, the item’s owner much comes during normal business hours.
Conduct

Aggressive, unsafe, or reckless behavior is explicitly forbidden. This includes, but is not limited to: promoting or engaging in physical abuse, verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, harassment, coercion, and/or other conduct which threatens or endangers the health or safety of any person. Infliction or threat of bodily harm, whether done intentionally or with reckless disregard, including threat or action in retaliation for making allegations of misconduct, is prohibited
 
Engaging in disorderly or lewd conduct, including being under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances is strictly prohibited.
 
Entering unauthorized areas such as offices, maintenance workshops, or storage rooms without the express permission of the Director of Recreation and Events will be considered trespassing.
 
Posting, advertising, conducting unauthorized private lessons or training, and soliciting individuals for personal services, businesses, or agencies are prohibited in the Field House.
 
Announcements, flyers, posters, etc. are not to be posted on building walls, windows, lockers and/or doors, unless prior permission is granted by the Director of Recreation and Events. With approval from Field House employees, items may be posted on the bulletin boards throughout the facility.
 
To protect individual privacy, photography and/or videotaping are not allowed unless prior written authorization is obtained from the Director of Recreation and Events. Once authorization is obtained, expressed consent must be obtained from all individuals that appear in the photo/video.
 
Alcohol, tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, illegal drugs, performance-enhancing drugs, firearms, and other weapons are strictly prohibited in the Field House or on any Colorado Mountain College property. For safety reasons, individuals may not the Field House or participate in programs while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
 
Abuse and misuse of equipment are prohibited. Report any damaged or faulty equipment, maintenance issues, or other concerns to a Field House employee. Patrons are required to clean equipment immediately after use. Cleaning wipes and disinfectant spray are provided to clean/disinfect equipment before/after use.
 
Spitting on floors, walls, stairwells, water fountains, or restroom sinks is prohibited.
 
Individuals or groups found in violation of any provisions of these policies are subject to immediate removal from a facility or activity, suspension of future facility or activity privileges, forfeiture of all fees, and further actions by the other College entities and/or local law enforcement.

Animals

Per Colorado Mountain College policy, Field House does not allow any animals to be tied up to any College building or object in the bounds of campus.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, service dogs or mini horses are permitted in the Field House.
 
In accordance with the CMC Resources for Disabled Students Office, emotional support animals are not allowed in the Field House.

Bicycles, Rollerblades, Skateboards, Hoverboards

No bicycles, skateboards, hoverboards, longboards, penny boards, Heely shoes, scooters, bikes, cleats or rollerblades are permitted in the Field House.
 
Per Colorado Mountain College policy, bicyclists and skateboarders will not infringe, or perform tricks upon benches, stairs, or other architectural components, landscaped areas, or any areas that are under cultivation on any Field House facilities.
 
Field House staff are not authorized to cut off bike locks stored outside of the Field House. Contact the Facilities Service Department for assistance with bike locks.

Facility Closures

The Field House or areas within may be closed and/or restricted from time to time. Most of these closures and restrictions will be due to special events, classes, cleaning and maintenance, reservations, or inclement weather. Scheduled closures will be posted one week in advance whenever possible. Unscheduled or emergency closures will be posted to the appropriate Colorado Mountain College web page(s) and the Announcements section of the RecDesk website.
 
Food and Drink

Please, no glass containers. Food is permitted in lobby and lounge areas only. Beverages are allowed in activity areas only if they are in sealed, unbreakable containers. Exceptions to these restrictions include College-catered functions and special events.
 
Fitness Area Policies
  • All equipment must be used in the manner for which it was designed. Do not attempt to modify the equipment.
  • Patrons lift at their own risk and spotters are encouraged.
  • Weight clips are required to be used.
  • cardio machines are limited to 30-minutes when equipment is in demand.
  • Users must return all fitness equipment to its proper locations immediately after use.
  • Dumbbells, fixed barbells, and metal plates should not be dropped at any time, only the bumper plates are permitted to be dropped.
  • Patrons should avoid slamming equipment.
  • Personal/portable music devices are allowed only when used with head phones.
  • Blood flow and oxygen restriction training is not permitted in the Field House.
  • No food or gum is permitted in the fitness areas.
  • Baby strollers/carriers are not allowed in the fitness areas.
  • Bags and jackets are not to be left on the floor of the fitness areas.
Multipurpose Room/ Sopris Room Procedures
  • Scheduled programming has priority usage of these areas.
  • These rooms are available for individual use during free periods.
  • Please be courteous to other members and share the space when possible.
  • All space utilization is subject to the discretion of the Field House staff.
These rooms can also be utilized by a group on a “drop-in” basis. Drop-in use will switch on the hour if a group is waiting. If no one else is waiting to utilize the space and there is not a reservation on the next hour, the original group may continue to use the space until there is a reservation or another user arrives. Once another user arrives and communicates with the Field House staff, the space will turn over to the waiting user on the hour.
  • To make use of this policy, groups must check in with the front desk staff prior to utilizing the space.
  • Groups may not displace any other patrons.
  • Drop-in reservations are limited to a one-hour block per day per person or group for a specific space.
  • The Field House will only accept in-person drop-in room reservations.
  • Rooms are available on the hour for drop-in reservations when not reserved or in use by the Field House or College.
  • Individuals or groups making back-to-back drop-in reservations will be asked to leave the room and will lose the drop-in reservation privilege.
  • Group activities interfering with others within the Field House may be asked to leave at the discretion of the Field House staff.
Groups wishing to hold organized events for more than one hour on a given day or multiple times within a week must adhere to the College space rental procedures and must be approved in advance by the Director of Recreation and Events. Any individual or group found using a multipurpose room/Sopris room on a recurring basis without following the procedures will be asked to leave the room.
 
Rec Gym Policies
College programs and activities will be prioritized along with other group reservations/rentals. Drop-in recreation is welcomed for basketball, volleyball, futsal, pickleball, and badminton when the space is open.
 
Dunking, slapping the backboards, and hanging on rims or nets is strictly prohibited due to the risk of injury and potential damage to the equipment. Violations of this policy will result in immediate ejection from the facility for the rest of the day. Repeated violations may result in suspension from the facility.
 
All open challenge play shall be handled in a manner fair to all wishing to participate. While others are waiting, the same two teams or groups may participate for a period of time not to exceed one hour.
 
Setting up and removal of equipment is handled solely by the Field House staff. Ask for assistance if the court equipment needs to be set up, removed or adjusted.
 
Court priority play follows the schedule set forth by the Director of Recreation and Events. Other activities are permitted when the priority activity is not present.
 
Locker Rooms & Restrooms

Colorado Mountain College and the Outdoor Leadership Center strives to provide safe, comfortable, and convenient locker and restroom facilities. Private, gender-neutral changing rooms are available on the second level of the Field House and include restrooms and showers. The first-floor houses two gendered restrooms, with a singular shower stall in each.
 
For ease of access, lockers are not located in any or our restrooms. There is a full bay of Digi Locks on each floor of the Field House.
 
The Outdoor Leadership Center and Field House honors the stated gender identity of our patrons. Gender identity may not be apparent or correspond with stereotypes about physical presentation.
 
Use of cameras, video recorders, mobile devices, or similar electronics is prohibited at any time in any restrooms.
 
Field House staff will access the locker rooms at various times for safety and maintenance reasons.
